ABOUT MY GARDEN
My garden is my happy place, and I am a self-professed "plant nerd". Some people browse boutiques or book stores -- I browse nurseries for fun.
We live on a half-acre lot on the Peninsula with shade, sun and lots of trees. We are avid composters, and also raise chickens and bees.

Cut flowers from our yard fill vases inside our home year-round. And from spring to fall, much of our produce comes from our vegetable and herb gardens, and 10 fruit trees.

Although my professional career and training are in business, I have loved gardening since my grandmother taught me to find the Lillies-of-the-Valley in the shady spot under her camelias. My mother has also been an inspiration, always spending time in her garden and sharing her gorgeous cut roses with me.
A few years ago, a friend asked me to help her fix up the neglected back patio of a home she was just moving into (see Jill's garden). Doing the project together was fun and rewarding. I decided to help others so more people could have beautiful spaces to spend time and enjoy life.
GARDEN PHILOSOPHIES
My grandmother Josephine said "Spend a nickel on dirt and a penny on the plant". Good soil and regular amendments will help keep your garden healthy and happy.

Prune, prune, prune. Think of your garden like your hair - it needs regular trims to keep its style (would you let your hair grow untrimmed for years?)

If a plant is healthy and happy in its place, keep it!

Design for all four seasons - you want to love your garden not just in summer, but in fall, winter and spring too.
