THE GARDEN DESIGN PROCESS

From ideas to installation and care

SET GOALS

We will meet to talk about how you use your garden and what you would like to create for your outdoor spaces.  We will develop goals and from that, create a list of areas to focus on.  I want to know what garden styles, colors and plants you prefer, and what other priorities you have, such as water reduction or minimal maintenance.

DEFINE WORK PLAN

Based on your goals and focus areas, we will create a timeline based on your needs and the season. While it's best to plant in the spring or fall, California's mild climates allow many improvements to be made year-round.  If you have a budget in mind, we will work within that.

PLAN AND IMAGE REVIEW

I will develop a presentation of photos, design concepts and plants, and will do initial plans to illustrate what your new space will look like.  We will review and refine based on your feedback.  We may iterate additional times, in order to get things just right.  The plan may also include irrigation changes, for example replacing sprinklers with drip systems to focus and reduce water usage.

INSTALLATION

I partner with your gardener to install the new garden elements. That way, your gardener knows what is being planted, and we can discuss ongoing care and maintenance once the new plants are in place.  If you don't have a gardener, I can help you find a good one.

FRESH HERBS TO ENJOY

The result (in this case) is a new herb garden, with a small lemon tree and edible flowers.
